It might sound like a gag from a comedy sketch but Mr. Bean is facing a very real bill for $1.4 million to fix his car after he wrecked it back in 2011.
Rowan Atkinson -- better known as Mr. Bean to his legions of fans -- will soon be back behind the wheel of his beloved maroon McLaren F1 sports car.
A mishap on a wet road in mid-2011 saw him slide off the road and hit a tree and a lamp post, with Atkinson suffering an injured shoulder but his car coming out much the worse for wear. The damage to the rare McLaren car was fairly slight but even small dings and damage to F1 cars can be very expensive.
Atkinson's case was tied up for quite awhile due to the insurance settlement (one of the largest ever in the UK involving a car -- but the damage and repair bill is finally in, with the total cost to fix his car coming in at about $1.4 million.
The carbon fiber construction of many of th parts make repairs difficult, with gold used in the engine bay jacking up the cost as well.
Atkinson purchased the McLaren in 1999 and hasn't parked it in a garage like many celebrity owners do with their automotive toys. He'd regularly drive the car, putting more than 30,000 miles on it since he bought it.
He's appeared on the BBC show "Top Gear" several times and had the following to say when he was interviewed for it:
"You've got to live with it. I have lived with it for 14 years, I've done a lot of miles in it, I've done 37,000 miles – which for a McLaren is a lot," said Atkinson.
He's rumored to own several other sports car in addition to the McLaren including a 1964 Ford Falcon, an Aston Martin V8 Zagato, and an Audi 8.
