Caribbean Stud History
Caribbean Stud has its name because the game originated in Aruba, either at one of the resort hotels or on Caribbean cruise ships that traveled to the area.
Although there is no concrete evidence of this, there is strong likelihood that the game first spread at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Table in Aruba, now known as the Excelsior.

The Basic Rules
In Caribbean Stud, a player begins by placing an ante bet of any size that falls within the table limits. He or she can also put down a $1 for the progressive side bet. The player and dealer then get five cards each, with one of the dealer's cards exposed. The player has two choices.
He can fold, forfeiting his bet and side bet.
He can raise, putting up another bet double the size of his ante bet.
If the player raises, the dealer turns over his cards. The dealer needs at least ace king high to qualify.
If the dealer fails to qualify, the player gets paid even money on his ante bet and ties the raise, regardless of the strength of the player's hand.
If the dealer qualifies, the player loses all bets if the dealer beats him, and wins even money on his ante bet and odds on his raise.

Progressive Side Bet
In Caribbean stud, players have the opportunity to place a side bet.
If dealt a flush or better, the player receives a payout for his progressive bet, regardless of the dealer's hand.
If the player gets a royal flush and has put up the progressive bet, he wins the progressive jackpot. The size of this jackpot grows the longer it goes without being hit.
