Wynn Resorts Set To Unveil New Design for Everett Casino

Wynn Resorts Limited, the Las Vegas casino company, announced their plans to unveil the new design for their Everett, Massachusetts casino, at their regular meeting with the Massachusetts Gaming Commission on Thursday.

Wynn Massachusetts has planned a billion dollar resort, located on the banks of the Mystic River on the site of the old site of the old Monsanto Chemical Plant. The project has had to face stiff competition and is currently having to contend with 3 different lawsuits, one each from the cities of Somerville and Revere and the third from the City of Boston, who is suing the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

During a speech given at the Boston Convention Center last week, Steve Wynn told a 2000 strong crowd of real estate developers that he is confident the casino will be built, despite the many objections, and he is sure the new casino will be a major economic engine in Massachusetts.

But, he also took the opportunity to fire a few shots at those who could slow the new casino down, making several references to Boston Mayor, Marty Walsh who filed a lawsuit on behalf of the city that, if successful, could Block Wynn’s plans for the new casino.

“You do good and you might expect a little acknowledgement,” said a cheerful Wynn about the many lawsuits. “I didn’t expect a parade. But a nice little fruit basket would have been nice.”

Everett’s New Waterfront Resort

Wynn Resorts Limited has proposed a $1.6 billion resort, casino, hotel and entertainment complex on 33 acres of the Everett waterfront overlooking the City of Boston. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission, when awarding the new casino license to Wynn Resorts, said the casino’s proposed 27-story hotel too generic.

The gaming commission asked Wynn to redesign the tower, as a condition of them awarding the license, which is considered the most potentially lucrative of the four licenses the state has been authorized to award.

During the speech at the real estate convention in Boston, Wynn said that the revised plans would echo “the grand hotels” of the past, and would have the largest hotel rooms outside of Las Vegas and offer up other luxury amenities.

He went on to describe the lobby of the hotel, which would feature two large indoor gardens. Wynn said the gardens would house massive flower sculptures, a carousel and a 26-foot-tall Ferris wheel. At the center of the lobby, there would be a 2000-pound sculpture of Popeye which would be created by artist, Jeff Koons.

Wynn has also said the billion dollar project would, during the construction phase, provide about 3700 temporary jobs and, when the casino had been completed and opened, would employ about 4380 permanent staff.

The casino, which is set to have a 500 room hotel, 3000 square feet of meeting and conference space, 94 000 square feet of shopping and retail space, 8 restaurants and gaming floor that would have enough space for 3000 slot machines and 150 table games.
