One of the most important elements in pop culture reportage is to compare and contrast.

Proclaim that fresh blood will transform into the dead shell of some over-the-hill or deceased legend.

We want the stars of today to embody core elements of those we already love.

We want them to be doe-eyed ingénues, scene-stealers, smoky-throated chanteuses, heavy hitters.

The recent news of Blake Lively's marriage to Canadian actor and buff dude, Ryan Reynolds, had me thinking about his previous marriage. To the equally stunning actress Scarlett Johansson.

Which made me think of Elizabeth Taylor.

I Don't Mean in the Acting Way

I don’t mean in the acting way. There are many actresses that could fill her role as a performer.

Elizabeth Taylor was Elizabeth Taylor because of what she did off screen.

And one of those things was get married. A lot. And get involved with men. A lot.

None of these young ladies has half the charisma or balls of Liz, but they just might have the guts to get married as many times as she has.

Let’s take a look at some beautiful women who have mediocre careers, lots of money and some serious bedroom eyes that will find a man to put a ring on it.

Getting hitched is not Liz’s defining characteristic, but it certainly stands out.

Scarlett Johansson   

The aforementioned Johansson has only been married once but after her ex married another hot blond with boobs that won’t quit, the seed for coming back with another wedding has could be planted.

She’s got the gorgeous sex symbol thing down with natural good looks and experience in the world of modelling

Acting-wise, Johansson has been given a lot of credit.

She has Independent Spirit Awards and Golden Globe nominations to her name, though lately she’s been taking a very non-Taylor like turn in appearing in action-packed action flicks.

She’s also a political advocate, like Taylor, and seems to have enough punch to get involved in causes that aren’t related to lipstick and footwear.

The sultry-voiced bombshell married Reynolds at the young age of 24 and has been photographed out and about with many handsome dudes.

Her dating track record has spanned a wide variety of men from the scruffy Jared Leto to the also scruffy Sean Penn.

She seems to have a wide net cast around her and is game for anything.

This ballsiness puts her in a prime position to take another husband before her 30th birthday.

Blake Lively 

As evidenced by her fairly recent secret wedding, Lively is a newlywed.

She’s currently in the throes of bliss, or contract negotiations, whichever.

But, if this Hollywood romance doesn’t last (they rarely do), at only 25 Lively has plenty of time to get herself another six men to walk her and her timeless legs down the aisle.

Working against Lively is her misnomer of a name. There is very little lively about her.

She’s more of a Barbie doll than an actor, and marrying the equally bland Reynolds isn’t a sure sign that she’s destined for Hollywood greatness.

Her interviews read like she’s got crib-notes on which designers to mention so she can continue to get more free things.

A great way to get pro bono couture, but not the most engaging way to entice fans.

Again though, lady’s got looks. Like her husband’s ex, she’s had experience as a model and knows how to pose.

She’s got the looking-good part of life down pat and, most of the time, that’s enough to get a lot of attention in the world of celebrity.

Drew Barrymore

At 37 she’s already on marriage number three, with her most recent nuptials taking place only earlier this year.

Being the daughter of Hollywood royalty certainly puts her in a higher bracket than the others on this list, but she could have married at least once more in her twenties.

She should be on marriage number four.

Acting wise, she has never been nominated for an Oscar but she’s picked up a Golden Globe and is an award-show fixture.

But, like Taylor, she’s been acting since she was quite wee and has a long career and nuptial-filled life ahead of her.

There’s still hope for her in the multi-love canon.
