Slot Strategy No. 2: Payback
Most casino games are played according to the odds. The House has already calculated that they have a specific edge in each game. For example, they might know they will win one dollar for every $100 wagered on the Banker in Baccarat on average.
Similarly, slot machines are set to pay back a specific percentage of the money they take in. A 99 percent payback machine pays back $99 out of every $100 it takes in, while an 85 percent payback machine would only pay back $85 out of every $100. It's obvious which one you would rather play. When playing online, try to find out the payback of the machines, and play the more favorable ones.
Slot Strategy No. 3: Ignore "Hot" and "Cold"
Other than the stated payback of the machine, there is no reason a machine should be more "hot" or "cold" than any other. A machine that has just paid out has the same percentage chance of paying out on the next spin as it always did. A machine that has gone many spins without a payoff is no more "due" on the next spin than any other machine with the same payback setting.
