Snowboarder Shaun White now has public intoxication and vandalism charges to wear around his neck next to his Olympic gold medals.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist was partying it up at the Loews Vanderbilt hotel in Nashville when his evening took an alarming turn.
Police officers responded to the hotel at 2 AM after being called when a man identified as the 26-year-old White drunkenly pulled a firm alarm and destroyed a hotel phone.
White allegedly attempted to flee the scene of his hijinks in a taxi but another hotel guest prevented him from leaving. At that point White kicked the man and ran off, with the concerned citizen giving chase.
The two apparently collided at some point during the foot chase. White added injury to insult when he fell and hit his face against a fence (with bruises apparent in his later mug shot after being arrested).
White was treated at a local hospital and turned over to police, at which point he refused to sign misdemeanor citations before being released the next afternoon on his own recognizance with a court date set for October.
White released an apology on his Facebook page stating: "I want to apologize for the unwise choices I made over the weekend and for any inconvenience it caused my family, friends, business partners, the hotel and their guests.
"I was celebrating a happy occasion with a ton of family and friends and got carried away. I'm truly sorry for my poor behavior."
The distinctive redhead has been one of the major US stars in the last two Winter Olympics. White stays busy throughout the year by competing in skateboarding events in the summer and snowboarding in the winter.
White has also proven successful in the business world and is involved in business endeavors such as video games, a clothing line and selling skateboards, BMX bikes and other equipment.
