Craps Profiles: Sharpshooter
Sharpshooter is the name of a craps expert and author who advocates a dice control method.
While most systems designed to beat casino games are based on betting systems or on correctly predicting the outcome or range of outcomes of a particular hand or spin, dice control purports to allow the player to physically change outcomes in their favor. If a player can do this, it would seem that they would gain an unstoppable house edge, which is what makes dice control so appealing, despite the spotty evidence as to its effectiveness.
The Sharpshooter Method
Sharpshooter advocates the "perfect pitch delivery" which he developed in the late '90s. According to Sharpshooter, this delivery, which requires that a player stand in a certain fashion and hold and throw the dice in a certain way, can cause the dice to skim the back wall of the craps table rather than bounce against it, and land in a pre-set manner.
Teaching Dice Control
Sharpshooter, at times with his partner Jerry Patterson, has written books explaining dice control, his most popular being "Get the Edge at Craps - How to Control the Dice" published in 2002. Sharpshooter has dice control videos and has given seminars on dice control. His Sharpshooter/PARR dice control classes are widely discussed among craps shooters in Nevada.
Sharpshooter's Background
Sharpshooter claims that his background as an engineer helps him understand the physics of throwing dice in such a way as to make his method more viable than others. He claims that casino personnel know that dice control works, but only his method is effective enough to worry the casinos. The truth of this statement is open to debate.
