Roulette Strategy

Since Roulette is a game of pure chance, one might think that it is impossible to give any advice on how to play the game.

But it's not! There are a few tips for how you can be a smarter roulette player.

Try to Be More European

Most good online casinos offer both American and European Roulette, and playing the European Roulette is a much better strategy for you as a player.

Since it has only a single zero rather than a single and a double zero as on the American Roulette wheel, but gives identical payouts, your winning chances are actually twice as high when playing the European Roulette.

Don’t Believe in Roulette Systems

They come in many forms and have many names – Martingale, d’Alembert, Five Quad and so on.

The one thing these betting systems is that they can’t eliminate the house advantage. It doesn’t matter how and when you place your chips, in the long run the casino wins.

If you want to follow a system when you play, fine, but don’t ever think it can turn you in to a long-term winner.

Having Fun Is a Great Thing

Roulette is all about entertainment, isn’t it? Have a great time and write down any losses as entertainment expenses.

That’s sound roulette strategy.

Sure, your roulette session may show a profit – good for you! But no one should sit down at a roulette table with the intention of making money. Don't quit your day job.

Again, the odds are always favorable to the house.

Make (and Stick to) a Roulette Budget

A good tip is to make a spending budget before you start playing. How much is left in your entertainment account? Give yourself an allowance and stick to it.

If you lose that amount, the show is over.

It is when you start spending more money than you can afford that you risk entertaining yourself into a real-life film noir. Never chase losses. Making more or bigger bets will not compensate for earlier losses.

It will only make your good time end sooner.

Let's say you spent some of your entertainment allowance on a sports event. Would you then buy a new ticket the week after with the intention of getting your money back? Roulette is entertainment, and you should not expect to enjoy it for free, or to leave as a winner.

Winning just puts a golden touch to the fun

When You Win, Rake’em In

Don't parlay your bets. That is, don't leave your previous bet and the chips you just won on the table for the next spin of the wheel. Doing so is the perfect roulette strategy for losing your money faster.

Rake in your winnings and keep playing your best game.

In roulette, the casino has an advantage over the players; that is true. But if there is a bonus to earn while playing roulette, this may improve your winning chances quite a lot.

High or Low-Variance Bets

When playing roulette you can’t influence the expected value of the game. All bets offer the same expected value. It doesn’t matter if you bet on number 12 straight up or on Red, your expected profit/loss is the same.

However, betting on single numbers leads to much bigger variations in your roulette chip stack. You will lose most of the time, but when you win you win a lot.

If you bet on Even or any other outside bet, you will win time and time again, but your individual winnings are small and your chip stack will not see any dramatic changes.

You can use this insight to your advantage. For example, if you have to make a certain number of bets to clear an online roulette bonus, a good tip may be to choose a low-variance betting pattern.

Also, if you participate in a roulette tournament and you are in a bad position as time starts running out, your best chances may lie in a high-variance roulette strategy.
