If you grow up in today's high-tech environment, learning to use a computer is something that goes naturally. By the time you are old enough to enter a virtual casino, you are more than capable to place your bets and spin the reels with help of your own PC.
Rise of the Personal Computer
For many senior citizens the "rise of the personal computer" came as something unexpected, and it took a little while for most of them to see the benefits of the electronic monster. However, as computer systems got better and more user-friendly, a growing proportion of senior citizens came to discover the benefits of the digital world.
Senior Citizens Gamble Online
A joint study by the University of Pennsylvania and Penn State University indicates that senior citizens are playing online casino games for the sake of recreation. A survey among 1,000 participants shows that 70% of them had participated in online gambling related activity over the past year.
Mental Fitness
The study further shows that former emotions like anxiety and intimidation slowly vanish, as the elderly embrace the experience as a possibility to learn something new. On top of that strategy games as blackjack and baccarat can be seen as advanced forms of mental exercise.
According to Associate Professor Stephan Robinson learning new things leads to the production of specific mental stimuli, which have proven to be beneficial in preventing cases of dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
