Denmark Leading the Way of Gambling Liberalization in Scandinavia

Denmark's most anticipated liberalization of both land-based and internet gambling could pave the way for the rest of Scandinavia, according to a new report by the Media & Entertainment Consulting Network (MECN) and the Danish law firm Horten.

The report and analysis examines how developments will influence the liberalization debate in the other more protectionist Scandinavian jurisdictions with particular emphasis on the balance between financial and social issues.

The report includes insights into key details of Denmark's draft law, an analysis of gambling sectors, current market figures as well as regulatory and tax information.

The liberazation of the gambling market in Denmark is one of the first in Europe and hopefully it could act as a catalyst for other governments. Compared to the French draft law, the Danish government goes further than just legalizing selected online games. For example, The Danes also plan on opening up the retail/land-based betting market.
