2 Million Reasons Why Dana White is Banned from The Palms
UFC boss Dana White is one of the best-known high rollers in Las Vegas but his action is no longer welcome at the Palms.
Dana White has made any millions from the UFC but a hot streak at the tables was apparently too much for The Palms casino to handle.
News surfaced last week that White had his betting limits reduced from $25,000 per hand to "just" $5,000 perhand but apparently White was banned entirely from betting at The Palms, which had been the favorite haunt of the legendary high roller.
White confirmed the news with an interview for the Las Vegas Review-Journal where he dropped the bombshell that the reason The Palms gave him the boot was that he won about $2 million during a three month heater.
“A lot of people are going to think I’m a card counter after that Ben Affleck thing at the Hard Rock," White told the Review-Journal. "I’m the farthest thing from card counter.”
The "Ben Affleck thing" he mentioned occured in early May 2014 when the Hard Rock Casino cut off Affleck from playing blackjack, claiming that he was too good for them but that he was welcome to play any other games in the casino.
White and The Palms have had a love-hate relationship in the past, as a few years ago they had a public spat when The Palms lowered White's credit line and he responded by threatening to take his UFC events to other venues in Vegas.
Apparently the current squabble between the two is a little friendlier, as White claims that The Palms is having a trophy made especially for him that says: "Congrats, you kicked our ass and made us tap out."
In the interview White claimed the real reason they had banned him was more a matter of hedging their risks and quarterly operating results:
"Casinos don’t want to gamble anymore,” White said. “They’re all owned by hedge funds and corporations. They want to stack the odds so much against you that won’t play. Realistically, there’s only one place to play left in town. That’s Caesars. They will let you play what you want to play. No messing around with limits."
White's absence will likely be sorely missed by dealers and wait staff. White is one of the biggest tippers in the history of Sin City and well-known for tipping hundreds of thousands of dollars to dealers and staff when he was in the midst of a hot run.
