Chartwell Software Review

In the online gaming world, its all about reputation. It's still a young industry, but there are already a number of software providers who have been at it for ten years or more. One of these is Chartwell, who has been providing online gaming software to casinos all over the world since 1998. Unlike many online gaming software providers, Chartwell is exclusively a software licensee and does not have any casinos of their own.

Acquisition of Chartwell Software

amaya gamingUnlike most providers, Chartwell’s casino games are primarily no download casino games, allowing the user to play a Flash game in their browsers rather than download an entire suite of casino software. Chartwell recently proudly announced the deal to provide software to Extrabet, the first online casino licensed in the United Kingdom. Chartwell, now a subsidiary of Amaya, has decades of experience in developing online casino, poker, and sports betting software for both desktop and mobile devices.

After operating since 1998 from Canada, In 2011 Chartwell was acquired by the giant Canadian online gambling company Amaya Gaming Group, the largest publicly listed online gambling company in the world, after the value of Chartwell shares started to decrease. Amaya are also owners of PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, who specialise in sports betting, online casinos, and also poker. Chartwell software technologies now functions as a wholly owned subsidiary of Amaya.

Lobby Layout

Skins and layouts are more a function of the full or partial download casino than the Flash casino. Players looking for bells and whistles will probably shy away from the no download options. At a Chartwell casino, you can expect just the basics -- a selection of game icons or a menu bar with plenty of game options. They aren’t unpleasant to look at, but they are nothing special either.

Sound and Graphics

Some users may have lowered expectations going into a Flash game environment. However, Chartwell casino games generally exceed expectations.

While not as fully rendered as some downloadable casinos, the graphics and sound of Chartwell table, card and slot games provide a complete, believable casino experience. You won’t necessarily think you are in Monte Carlo, but you will feel like you’re actually playing a convincing game of blackjack, roulette or craps. Some players complain that some of the speed and fluidity of gameplay is lost, but this is not a huge problem for most.

Casino Game Variety

Chartwell casinos cover the basic online casino games, such as roulette, in zero and double zero formats, blackjack of various stakes, craps and baccarat. Other popular table games like let it ride, Caribbean stud and Pai Gow poker are also available. Several slots are offered in both the three reel and five reel types, and video poker is offered with jacks or better, deuces wild and a few other variations.
