How Do Casino Tournaments Work?
An interesting way to enjoy casino games in the 21st century is through the tournament. The popularity of tournaments has grown in recent years -- probably in part due to the proliferation of poker and blackjack tournaments on television.
However, you do not need to be a television star to enjoy tournaments in casinos.
Types of Tournaments in Casinos: Poker
This is probably the most well known type of tournament. In a poker tournament, players start with the same number of chips and battle each other in a "freezeout." This means that as soon as a player loses all of his chips, he's eliminated from the tournament. The exception is the "rebuy" tournament, in which players can buy additional chips for a limited amount of time.
When one player has all the chips, he wins. Other players receive a payout according to how long they last in the tournament.
Types of Tournaments in Casinos: Slots
Slot tournaments are another popular type of casino tournament. Slot players receive an equal amount of credits to play. Whoever has the most credits at the end of the allotted time period wins.
Slot tournaments are all about speed of play. Competitors try to play fast in the beginning to build up credits, but may slow down near the end if they feel they have a much higher total than the closest competitor.
Types of Tournaments in Casinos: Blackjack
In blackjack tournaments, players play a limited number of hands, all against the same dealer, and the one with the most chips at the end of the (usually 30) hands is declared the winner of that round. This game is all about betting. Players attempt to base their bets on the stacks of competitors, trying to determine the optimal bet size for taking and maintaining the lead under the right circumstances.
