Biggest Stories of the Year:

-       New Jersey Voters Say Yes to Sports Betting

The United States of America has had a long and extremely troubled relationship with gambling and when it was announced that sports betting could be added to Atlantic City’s already impressive offerings, it caused quite a stir. Unfortunately, due to the influence of the various professional sports leagues, the NHL, NFL, NBA and the NCAA who felt sports betting would be a bad influence of the many athletes, the bill was scrapped.

-       Gambling Revenues Grow in the UK

Gambling has always been a favorite pastime in the United Kingdom and with the introduction and availability of the internet, it has only increased. Independent auditors, PricewaterhouseCoopers, conducted research into the matter and found some extraordinary results. It valued the online gambling industry at $1.2 billion per year, which made it the biggest online gambling industry in the world.

-       Gambling Revenues Still Robust in Macau

Nearly a decade ago, Las Vegas was the world’s biggest gambling Mecca and few could have foretold the rise and impact of Macau. Now though, it has surpassed Sin City in terms of revenue, largely thanks to the Asian high rollers who have flocked to the Baccarat tables. With new casinos, hard-working casino hosts and the promise of a wild weekend, Macau is now the unofficial high rollers capital of the world.

-       Las Vegas Struggles to Find Momentum

Before the monumental rise of Macau, Las Vegas was the choice destination for gamblers from all over the world. Billionaire playboys, Oil Tycoons, Royalty and Midwestern families alike, all flocked to the bright lights of Vegas. Now though, with Macau fast becoming the millionaires playground and offering a unique appeal that even Vegas can’t match, the revenues in Sin City have begun to decline as high rollers flock to the no limit Baccarat tables of the small island.
