Well, you knew it was coming.
The most important poker tournament the world has ever seen is just around the corner.
A date and time have officially been set for the World Series of Me, and it shall be October 16, 2010 at 3pm Eastern Daylight Savings Time (New York Time).
Two places will be paid, and the prizes will break down like this:
- 1st Place Cash Prize of $400
- 2nd Place (Runner-Up) Cash Prize of $100
As if that were not enough, whoever knocks me out gets a $100 prize. This is known as a "bounty", and it will be paid to the person who busts me out regardless of how they place in the overall tournament. Of course, this assumes that I will not come in first (a faulty assumption).
The entry fee for the tournament is only $5 which makes for a theoretical 100:1 return on the endeavor (1st place + knocking me out), and also represents perhaps the best risk/reward you are going to get anywhere with the notable exception of a freeroll. Seriously, five bucks is practically free, and you would have to really suck to be that under-confident, but let's face it ... you probably do really suck so nobody's going to blame you if you wuss out.
"Hey Rex, I'm no wuss, I honestly think I have a chance of busting you out ... I'm just that delusional!"
Heh, there's one in every crowd, and they're the ones that usually end up buying me dinner. If you want to be that person, who am I to talk you out of it?
To participate in the tournament there are a couple of things that need to be done, outlined below:
Step 1: You must sign up here (click on link below) between October 6th and October 13th:
Sign up for the tournament
After signing up, you will receive 3 emails:
The 1st email will be sent out once you click on the “Sign up NOW” button which will contain some general information.
The 2nd email will be sent out, beginning the 6th of October, containing more information to register for the tournament: “Don’t forget to create an account at Bodog via this link, with this password” etc.
The 3rd email will be sent out 48 hours before the actual tournament (October 16, 2010 at 3pm Eastern Daylight Savings Time - New York Time) which will contain a final reminder: “Don’t forget to register for the tournament”.
Step 2: Complete registration of the tournament and $5 buy in between the 15th and the 16th of October (you will receive an email with registration information and a reminder as stated above after sign up for tournament). The tournament is only open to new players.
Please note that by executive decree of the poker gods, use of the phrase "winner winner chicken dinner" during the tournament will not only result in your immediate disqualification, but it will also result in your immediate annihilation by the Vdara Death Ray.
Consider yourself warned.
Since this tournament is being set up for me, and I have absolutely NO idea how the behind-the-scenes mechanisms work, any questions or comments regarding the tournament should be directed here:
So, it's on.
The first online tournament I have ever played in my life, and the first time I have ever publicly put my poker-playing nuts on the public chopping block.
You finally get a chance to hold the hammer, and you officially have ten days to sign up, register, practice, sharpen your skills, and get ready to play for second place.
Really, that's the best you mere mortals can hope for.
