Bizarre Casino Robbery Ends In Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound & Capture
Samantha Nicole Wynn, a 19 year-old resident of Clark Lake, Michigan, is being credited as the criminal mastermind behind one of the most peculiar casino robberies in recent memory, one that has seen two of the suspects arrested for armed robbery while a third has been hospitalized due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The events, which culminated in an armed robbery outside the Soaring Eagle Casino in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, began with the accused, Samantha Wynn, making a trip up to Flint to purchase Xanax, anti-anxiety medication popular with recreational drug users.
A few days prior to that, Wynn announced her trip via her Facebook account saying: “I stay outa town; gotta stop in the city next,” she wrote on her Facebook page. “Shit crazy the things I go through to pick up some zannies (slang for Xanax).”
As well as the post regarding the Xanax, Wynn also took to Facebook looking for a companion for a ride up to Flint and saying: “I called up Maa Connect I need some Gass&MuDD!!!” Gas being the slang for Methamphetamine and Mud being the slang for Ecstasy or Heroine.
It was during her foray into Flint that Wynn met up with her would be victim, although it remains unclear as to how the two met up or, for that matter, why they decided to visit the Soaring Eagle Casino in Mount Pleasant.
It was during the trip to the casino that Samantha Wynn found out about a large amount of money her companion had won during a previous trip to a casino and it was then that she contacted her accomplice, Taj Mack Shackleford, also of the Jackson area, and told him to bring her car up to the casino so they could rob her companion.
On the way to meet Wynn, Taj Mack Shackleford stopped to pick up another companion to help with the robbery, a 15-year-old, also from the Jackson area.
It appears that Shackleford – who is also facing charges of: being a felon in possession of ammunition, having a weapon with unlawful intent, carrying a concealed weapon and using a firearm in the commission of a felony – was armed as the 15-year-old suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound on route to the robbery.
Wynn and Shackleford took the juvenile to a hospital in McLaren, Central Michigan, for treatment, before heading back to the Soaring Eagle Casino for the robbery.
Once back at the casino, Wynn lured the victim to the casino parking lot, where Shackleford entered the victims 2004 Jaguar and pointed a gun at the victim, ordering him to empty his pockets. Shackleford told the victim to give Wynn all the money as well as his phone and if he turned around, he would “blow his brains out”.
In a statement to police, Samantha Wynn has said that she did not know Shackleford was going to rob her companion and Shackleford has denied having a gun or robbing anyone. However, surveillance video provided by the casino shows all three entering the victim’s jaguar just before 7 in the morning.
After the robbery, Wynn and Shackleford fled the casino parking lot in Wynn’s car and were well away from the scene of the crime by the time police were contacted. But, they were pulled over by a state trooper in Gratiot County a little later. Police found handguns described by the victim in the trunk of the car as well as the items and money stolen from the victim.
Both Wynn and Shackleford have been arraigned with bail for Wynn being set at $600 000 and bail for Shackleford being $1 000 000. Both are being held at the Isabella County Jail while their 15-year-old accomplice has been treated for his wounds and released from Hospital.
