Best Blackjack Scenes in Movies

Blackjack is an iconic casino game that has been featured prominently in several classic movie scenes over the years.

Most of the best blackjack movie scenes featured below tend to fall on the humorous and light-hearted side of the spectrum.

Still, a few come from more serious films including a movie that won an Academy Award for Best Picture.

The Hangover

The famous blackjack scene in The Hangover only lasts about three minutes but that’s enough time for Alan and crew to spin up a big win of $80,000 to settle up their bets and to rescue Doug.

It includes an homage at the beginning to another famous blackjack scene mentioned below and is a reasonably realistic portrayal of a blackjack counting team in action -- if you ignore the silly mathematical equations floating around in Alan’s head during the scene.

The blackjack scene in Swingers is a quick one -- Mike plays exactly one hand at a $100 minimum table that sees him double down and lose before moving over briefly to a low stakes table -- but it sets the tone for the rest of the movie.

"Double down” also crops up throughout the rest of the movie as a comedic jab.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest

The scene where Jack Nicholson’s McMurphy character ropes other patients at a mental institution into a game of blackjack for cigarettes isn’t as glamorous as other blackjack scenes set in casinos.

But it is a great scene that establishes McMurphy as the cagey ringleader at the center of all the action.

Licence to Kill

James Bond is typically more comfortable at the baccarat or roulette tables but in Licence to Kill he tries his hand to blackjack.

With typical Bond success as he manages to run up a big win of £250,000.

Rain Man

The blackjack scene from Rain Main is not only the most famous blackjack scene of all time but it came in a movie that won an Oscar for Best Picture.

While it wasn’t exactly the most accurate depiction of how card counting actually works, the brief stop in Vegas and Raymond’s success at the blackjack tables include some great scenes and play a pivotal role in the movie plot.
