Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez have officially called it quits after a two-year relationship -- bad news for them but good news for the legions of girls around the world with Bieber fever.
The end of "Jelena" -- from by those who insist on combining names of celeb couples to refer to the single unit -- apparently came on Halloween when Gomez reportedly ended the relationship.
Friends close to both of them aren't quite calling it done yet, as they say the two have had plenty of ups and downs since they first publicly appeared together in 2010 on a "romantic" date at IHOP.
Us Magazine was one of the first to have the scoop on the break-up, with a source telling them:
"Selena broke up with Justin about a week ago. It's been a really challenging experience over the last year because of their crazy schedules. Selena definitely had some major trust issues with Justin."
Gomez had previously admitted in interviews that Bieber fever made hanging with the Biebs difficult, due to the rabid nature of some of his diehard female fans who didn't want to see him with any other woman:
"It's hard. It hurts, it really does. I don't feel like I'm doing anything wrong. I've been best friends with him for a very long time. It does hurt my feelings a lot but I try not to focus on it."
Unlike a lot of high-profile celeb splits, they'll at least not have to worry about squabbling over custody rights or who gets what house.
Both would appear to have plenty of good years ahead of them.
Bieber has had two #1 albums in the last year and Gomez has been a prominent spokesperson for UNICEF in various campaigns and initiatives.
